“Faking It” on MTV

mtv-faking-it-interviews

Alright. Here’s my dilemma… I don’t know where to begin with this one. First off, I applaud MTV for once again showcasing the LGBT community on their network. Buuuuuuut, I am not too thrilled about how they showcased them.

The premiere/pilot of “Faking It” was just this past week.  As I was cruising the various stations on my TV tonight, I spot two girls kissing and immediately stop my channel surfing. I had to see the whole episode, so as the good dedicated lesbian that I am I went online and start watching it (you can watch it here – http://www.mtv.com/shows/faking_it/video/full-episodes/).

This show is basically about two BFF’s, Amy (Rita Volk, the blondie) and Karma (Katie Stevens, boy crazed brunette) who pretend to be lesbians to gain social acceptance at their super-tolerant high school (which oddly enough is in Texas, granted Austin is supposed to be super hip – so my bro says). Anyway, if I knew being a lesbian was so cool I would have come out a lot sooner! Jokes aside, in the world we live in today, and how far we’ve come with LGBT equality, it’s as if this show is going backwards. Helloooo, be yourself and you’ll get friends that way. Yes, let’s teach our youth to lie and pretend to be someone they aren’t just to fit in. Good message MTV! Wait, let me remember, it is MTV and majority of this station consists of bullshit.

Ok, calm down Katie, there’s still more to discuss.

I haven’t even gotten to the hunky teenage boy who Karma undresses with her eyes every time she sees him. But wait, you’re supposed to be a lesbian, Karma… ugh, so confusing! Anyhow, it’s clear that Amy hates the entire set-up and doesn’t like “faking it” but does what makes her BFF happy. How sweet is she? I can already sense the “Oh shit, I’m a reeeeal lesbian and I’m going to fall in love with my best friend” situation. Anyone else feel that, too? It’s a given. MTV you can hire me now ;)

Long story short, Amy and Karma decide to keep going with the fake lesbian spiel and run for home-coming queens since now they are oh so “popular”. HA, it’s about to get cray! Cue Lauren, all high on her traditions and old-school ways, overhears the girls and how they’re making everyone believe they’re lesbians to fit in. Home-coming speech time comes around and BAM, Lauren blows those fake masks right off

UNTIL….

Wait for it...
Wait for it…
Mhmm, I was sold here too.
Mhmm, I was sold here too.

Sealed with a kiss. The crowd goes wild.

Amy once again comes to the rescue of her dear BFF Karma and plants one right on her. And there you have it… the fakers successfully steal the show. Hmm, but that Amy… after that kiss… you know she was feeling more than she thought she would. Of course. One of them had to or this show wouldn’t exist.

Heather Peace – “Fight For”

Lesbians know her from the hit TV series, Lip Service. What I didn’t know was her musical talent! Last year, Peace released a jazz album titled Fairytales, which topped the charts in the UK. (Side note – I LOVE British people!) Now with a new single out, she’s off on her UK tour.

With that being said, who doesn’t love a good fight? Especially when you’re fighting with heart? Heather Peace’s new music video “Fight For” shows the range of what people are willing to fight for; whether that be to stop animal cruelty or fight for equal marriage. I have always been a believer in fighting for the things that matter most to you, the things that bring the best out in you, change or growth within yourself, etc. We all have a fight inside of us, it’s just whether or not you want to take those steps and make a change.

This video features Heather Peace’s friends and family members each silently holding signs of what they are willing to fight for. Some are quite silly! Some want to fight for the greater good in the world, as others want to fight for 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep lol. “Fight For” is currently available on iTunes – so go get it! Support our fellow lesbians :)

“Venice” the series

If you haven’t heard of this series yet, then I’m excited to be the one to share it with you. Thanks to a twitter friend of mine she exposed me to this show and now I’m addicted.

For those of you who watched Guiding Light, Days of Our Lives, One Life to Live, etc., the faces in Venice will quickly become familiar. I remember following the “Otalia” craze from Guiding Light and wishing that those two women would finally get together. Well, the show went off the air and so did “Otalia” until Crystal Chappell started the series called Venice. In this series we finally get to see these women TOGETHER! :P Now, if you never followed Otalia it’s fine because the series does not continue from how they ended on Guiding Light. It’s a brand new show, new storylines, new faces, and lots of fun action!

As far as watching it goes, the show does have a YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/venicetheseries) where you can watch Season 1 & Season 2 for free every weekend and the first episode of Season 3. On the show’s website (http://www.venicetheseries.com/) you can subscribe to see all the new episodes of Season 3. It’s $9.99 to sign up and I believe you only pay that once. The show needs funding, remember? You can also just stay tuned with their youtube channel to see if they’ve posted new episodes. You’ll notice that when the show first started the length of the episodes were quite short, but now that they have more people behind the series & more funding, the length is now up to 30 mins per episode in Season 3.

Here’s the link to the first episode of Season 1:
